RACING IN AUSTRALIA.
A.J.C: MEETING. DEFEAT OF LIMERICK. MURILLO WINS METROPOLITAN. (United Press Association). SYDNEY, October 3. The Australian Jockey Club's meeting to-day was marred by unpropitiou3 weather. Rain fell unceasingly in the early morning but eased off just before the first race. Heavy cold showers fell at intervals during the aftemon, and as a result the race track was in a heavy state. Despite unpropitious weather there was an • attendance of 50,000 at Randwick. In the decision of the Breeders’ Plate, the New Zealand colts Tariff and Ridgemount were prominent in the early stages, but failed over the last furlong, leaving Hamulus, a brother to the Derby winner Rampion, to win by three-quarters of a length. The field for the Metropolitan was reduced to 19 by the withdrawal of Pantheon, Valamita and Uctember. Limerick was unfortunate to receive some knocks early in the contest, and j he was well back passing the stand i the first time*, where Drawbridge had j the lead from Amounts. Murillo also i was knocked back going along the back stretch, but he made a smart run rounding the bend. Horton Gag led J into the straight, where Murillo shot to i the front, with Limerick, who had j come up on the outside, in close at- j tendance. The New Zealand gelding j was, however, unable to get up to Mur- j illo, who won by three and a-half lengths. I The following are the details of the | racing:— j
