THE LAZIEST CITY.

Cairo is probably the laziest great capital city in the world. Here no fewer than three different calendars are recognised—Moslem, Christian, and Orthodox —and the list of holidays is amazing. The Moslems have a day off. on Friday, and the Christians on Sunday, and the Orthodox on Saturday, so that it is absolutely impossible to get any work done between Thursday and Tuesday. There are two Christmases, two Easters, two Ascension Days, three New Year’s days, in addition to many Moslem religious holidays. Then the Moslems have a number of special feast occasions. One of these is called the Ramadan, and this lasts a whole month. The Moslem holidays alone take up 117 days in the year.
