NAURU ISLAND.
PROGRESS OF THE NATIVES SOCIALLY AND MATERIALLY. A SATISFACTORY REPORT. 'United Press Association). (Received Sept. 30, 10.30 a.m.) CANBERRA, Sept. 30. The annual report of the Administrator of Nauru Island has been tabled in the House of Representatives. It shows the chief endeavour of the Government has been to promote in terms of the mandate the material and social progress of the inhabitants. The progress made lias been very encouraging, even astonishing. The people are much more prosperous, and this has been brought about by the higher standard of living and intelligent interest in island affairs. An agency of the Commonwealth Savings Bank has been established, and Ihc deposits held on account of native depositors amount to over £7OOO. The territory has no public debt.
