. -❖ W SILICA WORKINGS IN NEW ZEALAND The London Times of August 23 states:— ‘ News, that permission has been given for a New Zealand company to work silica deposits in the Mount Somers region has roused interest among Eng- ■ iish .glass manufacturers. It is announced that a full plant is expected < v to be operating by the end of the •i year. ■ % A member of the Glass Manufacs furors’ Association stated that it was unlikely that flic'British market would he affected by the new enterprise. T There were excellent silica deposits in V. France, Belgium, and Germany, and the cost of transhipping them to this country, was a small one. However pure th.e deposits in New Zealand might he, it was probable fhat the extra - freight charges would kill trade with Great Britain.
