MUSIC FROM THE AIR.

MARVELLOUS INVENTION. BY A RUSSIAN PROFESSOR. ' SCIENTISTS IMPRESSED. (Australian and N.Z. Cable Assn.} (Received Sept. 30, 12.30 p.m.) 4- BERLIN, Sept. 29. A remarkable invention, by which music can be extracted from the air I was revealed at a demonstration at Bechstein Hall, which was attended by Dr. Einstein and many German professors and Mr C. B. Cochran, theatre manager. The inventor (Professor Theremin, Russia) stood on a stage near a small wooden box, from which a foot-long brass rod projected. lie merely vibrated his fingers in the air as though playing a musical instrument, and instantly a tune was extracted as the result of the agitation of the waves re-acting upon the instrument. The scientists accepted an invitation to play on the air, and everyone succeeded in obtaining a tune. The nearer the hand drew to | the bjass rod the higher the [ note with a deeper tone as it withdrew. Certain notes were also j produced by merely blinking the eyes or moving the muscles of the face the right distance from the instrument. The scientists agree that the invention has vast possibilities.
