REMARKABLE INCIDENT. AT NAVAL MANOEUVRES. CREW THROWN INTO WATER. (Australian and N.Z. Cable Assn.) (Rec. September 30, 9.40 a.m.) LONDON, September 29. A remarkable incident occurred during the Atlantic licet manoeuvres in Cromarty Firth. The drifter Billow was lowing a target when she fouled the wreck of the warship Natal which was blown up during the war. When the tide receded it lel'l the Billow almost high and dry. A salvage gang was working by the aid of searchlights when the Billow, without warning, slipped off and almost turned turtle and then in a surprising manner regained an even keel. The whole of the sea-booted crew were thrown into the water, and four who were unable to scramble aboard were rescued by a picket boat from the battle cruiser Hood. The gale was so fierce that the manoeuvres had to be postponed.
