PUTARURU TOWN BOARD.
(FORTNIGHTLY MEETING. The following commissioners were present at the fortnightly meeting of the Putaruru Town Board:—Messrs G. G. Griffiths (chairman),) k. McDermott, J. G. Tomalin, \V. Yandle, H. W. Lindsay, and G. C. Neal. The cler' (Mr A. H. Dukeson)) also attended. * Messrs Hampson and Bell wrote enclosing a letter from the picture lessees stating that the lease was correct every detail, and regretting the tone of their previous, letter, for which they aP The chairman thought the matter should now be allowed to drop. Mr Neal: I think so. that is a very handsome letter. The chairman read correspondence handed to him by Mr A. E. Barr Brown from the Hawke’s Bay Amusement Company asking the board’s terms or the use of the hall for showing pictures, —it was decided to reply that no dates were available until the expiry of the present contract, when tenders would automatically be called for. The Hamilton Borough Council wrote with regard to the allocation of heavy traffic license fees, the board’s proportion for this year being- payable to the Matamata County Council. It was pointed out that next year the Town Board would be included in the pool, and the only means of getting the board’s share this year would be through the Matamata County Council. mata County Council on the matter. Mr J. It. 0. Lochhead, the board’s representative on the Assessment Court, wrote that at the hearing of objections at Rotorua to valuations, Mr Kusabs had offered his section in Princes Street to the Government for £750. After carefully considering the evidence the Court had finally fixed Ihc unimproved value at £950. A further letter from the Valuation Department, Auckland, stated that the section had been offered for £7OO. Mr Neal: It's a ridiculous method. If any one of us had to sell in a hurry within three months he could not get two-thirds value in cash. After all, if the Matamata County was offered to the Government at valuation it could not buy. It’s another proof the Government is a “hass.” (Laughter.) Mr Yandle: How does it go in regard to the poll? The chairman: They can be held every three years. The chairman was authorised to get the • approach to Fitzherbert's quarry formed and metalled by Mr Walsh for the sum of £lO. The chairman reported that through an oversight the specifications for Campbell Road were not available when one applicant called. In view, of this he thought the matter should he held over and the men concerned communicated will!.—This was agreed to, and Messrs McDermott, Yandle, and Griffiths were given power to act in the matter. The board decided to inspect the quarry and the, sanitary farm at an early date.
Complaints were received by the board that unlicensed persons were selling milk and fish, and it was decided to write to the persons concerned, and draw their attention to the by-laws.
