MURDERED POLICEMAN.
A CONFESSION. "LET HIWI HAVE IT.* AN OUTBREAK OF VIOLENCE. (Received Sept. 29, 9.5 a.m.) LONDON, Sept. 28. A man, giving the name of Andrew Baldwing (not Baker) has surrendered in connection with the murder of Constable Gutteridge. It is alleged he stated he was riding a bicycle without a light when Constable Gutteridge stopped him. After an argument he " let him have it." Baldwing calmly surrendered in Basingstoke Market Square, but he became violent at the police station.
BALDWING'S STORY. DISCREDITED BY THE POLICE DUE TO HALLUCINATION. (Rec. September 29, 9.40 a.m.) LONDON, September 28. The police are inclined to the view, that Baldwing is suffering a hallucination and had had nothing to do witii the crime. BLOODSTAINED MOTOR FOUND. ABANDONED AT BRIXTON. BULLETS IN THE FOOTMAT. (Australian ft N.Z. Cable Assn.) (Rec. September 29, 9.45 a.m.) LONDON, September 28. A bloodstained motor car has been found abandoned in Brixton. Two spent bullets of the same size as those which killed Constable Gutteridge were found embedded in the foot mat.
