WAIKATO LYCEUM CLUB.

DELIGHTFUL CONCERT. It is not every day that a concert of such unusual merit and of such highclass music is heard in Hamilton as that given by Madame Irene Ainslcy at the Lyceum Club recently. Madame Ainslcy has a contralto voice of great beauty, and has had a long training and experience in operatic singing at Home, where she was for several years principal contralto with the famous Carl Rosa opera company. The operatic numbers in the programme were beautifully rendered, mid were a great treat to those who so rarely have the opportunity of hearing such music. Madame Ainslcy was ably supported in the duets and trios by Mrs F. Bond, Mr K. Eadc, mid Mr Gibson Blackie, all of whom gave solo items as well. At the close of the concert Dr. Douglas presented Madame Ainslcy, on behalf of the club, with a lovely bouquet of violets (the work of Miss L. Cussen), and thanked her and the other performers for the very great pleasure they had given. The concert was thoroughly appreciated, as was evident in the hearty applause that greeted every item, and in the prolonged clapping at the close, when Madame Ainslcy, in response to repeated calls, most generously gave three more encores. i.

The programme was as follows: Prologue, from “Pagalacci,” Mr Gibson Blackie, encore “Passing By”; aria, “Noble Signor,” from “The Hugenots,” Madame Ainslcy, encore “Beware”; songs, (a) “Heartsease,” (b) “Inter Nos,” Mr K. Eade, encore “Pale Moon”; aria, from “Aida Verdi,” Mrs F. Bond duet from act 2, “Aida,” Madame Ainsley and Mrs F. Bond, encore “13acarolle,” duct from “Tales of Hoffman,” Madame Ainsley and Mrs Bond; song, “Where My Caravan,” Mr Gibson Blackie; aria, “Caronomc," from Verdi’s “Rigoletto,” Mrs F. Bond, encore, “May Morning”; trio, “Turn On, Old Time,” from “Maritana,” Mrs F. Bond, Mr K. Eade, and Mr G. Blackie; group of four songs, English, French, German, and Italian, Madame Ainsley.
