WAIKATO MARKET REPORT.

' The Farmers'' Co-operative Auctioneering Co., Ltd., report:— Beef—There'has been a sharp rise for both ox and cow beef since our last report, with every prospect of a further rise within the next few weeks. Prime ox is making 32s per 100 and prime cow and heifer 28s. Fat Sheep.—The market is very firm, with short supplies of both ewe and wether mutton offering. It looks as, if we are likely to see good prices for fat sheep during the next two months. Store Sheep.—There has been a keen demand for hoggets, ewes in lamb and store wethers, breeding ewes making fully 10s per head better than this time last year. Very few lines of hoggets and wethers are at present offering. . Store Cattle.—A sharp rise has taken place for all, classes of stores, with competition very keen, especially for young male cattle. Good frame empty cows are also much sought after. Yearling Jersey heifers are wanted, with very fed offering.

. Dairy Cattle. —Competition is keen for dairy herds; also a good inquiry exists for choice springing heifers close to profit. Inferior and backward are dull of sale.

Pigs.—Baconers and porkers arc easier with fair competition for stores. Horses. —The market is quiet for all classes.

The Department of Agriculture has receivel the following cablegram dated 30th ultimo, from the High Commissioner for New Zealand, London: — Tallow. —Spot market ' quiet, but better demand at auction, Present quotations arc: —Mutton: Fine, 34s 6d per cwt.; fair to good, 33s Gd to 345; dark to dull, 30s b 31s. Beef: Sweet and or mixed. 345, to 38s; fair to good, 31s 9d to 33s Gd; dark to dull, 30s to 3J.s. Mixed: Fair to good, 3ls 6dto 33s 6d; dark to dull, 30s to 31s. Gut, etc., 26s to 30s. Apples. —Cool stored shipment, ex Tainui, marketed this week. Condition very satisfactory- Prices are. as follows:—Sturmer, 15s to 20s per case; Statesman, 20s to 23s per case; Rome Beauty, 17s to 20s per case.

The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Ltd., Hamilton, report:—At the Ohinewai sale on Monday last, we had .a medium yarding of cattle. A keen demand existed for ail classes, and there was a general advance in prices. Wc quote: Killable cows, £4 17s to £5 Pis; fleshy cows, £3 18s to £4 6s; store cows, £2 15s to £3 12s; three-year-old forward steers, £7 19s; Jersey heifers, close to profit, £8 10s to £lO ss, others £6 to £7 10s; dairy cows, £5 to £B.
