N.Z. FARMERS' UNION

HORSHAM DOWNS BRANCH. The monthly meeting of the Hov sham Downs branch of the Farmers' Union was held oh the 13th inst. Mr T. 11. Henderson presided. Others present were Messrs Boyd, Haultain, Prescott, Silcqck, Osborne, J. W. Upson, 11. H. Upson, Wintere, and Baker (secretary). Apologies were received from Messrs Bruce and McCorquindale. Respecting inquiries mdae concerning seconds or damaged grain for the purpose of pig-feeding, the following reply was received from Blenheim: "The matter was brought up at the branch annual meeting, but members could not deal with the situation, as they had already made arrangements to dispose of their seconds or rejected barley ex merchants' stores, where it is send immediately it is threshed." — R. Wanden, branch secretary. A resolution was sent to County Council that it is the unanimous opinion of the branch that all bonaflde farmers should be allowed to own and use a motor-lorry to .transport manures and farm produce free of taxation, the maximum, load to be 30 cwt., irrespective of the weight of truck. It is essential for our County Council lo bring this matter before the Ministry lo have the Act amended before the coming spring.

The finances of the branch were discussed, and it was decided that all orders on dairy companies be cancelled, future subscriptions to be paid lo the secretary.

The "rally day" and exhibitions function proved a success. All felt the day was v>ell spent. The annual concert, as far as talent was concerned, left nothiug to be desired. The president, Mr T. H. Handerson, thanked one and all for the co-opera-tion and kindly assistance.

Letters of appreciation were sent to Messrs W. Ncwcll and A. W. Green for donating special prizes, and to Messrs House and Daking for donating the ribbons.
