NEGOTIATIONS FOR AN ALLIANCE
(Australian and X. 7.. CabTo A«?3n.) (Received June 20. £.30 a.m.) CAIRO, June 19. Sarwat Pasha, the Egyptian Prime Minister, will acmmpany King Fuad on his visit to England.
Who, with his Prime Minister, Sarwat Pasha, will visit England next month, when negotiations for a formal alliance between Britain and Egypt will probably be opened. (Received June 20, 9.55 a.m.! LONDON, June 19. The Observer's diplomatic correspondent sta'es the fact that King Fuad has arranged to arrive in London on July A is regarded as evidence that friendliness has been restored between Britain and Egypt. It is an open secret that. King Fuad's presence will be the occasion of soundings in the direction of an important change in Anglo-Egyptian relations, by which a formal alliance may be concluded and independence restored to Fgypt. The fact that Sarwat Pasha convinced the Wafd that the best policy is to be friendly to Britain is regarded as likely to lead to a satisfactory settlement.
The Egyptian Government will have to commit itself to the perpetual freedom of the Suez Canal, arrange for the security of foreign lives, and agree to a sort of joint Monroe doctrine, whereby no third Power will be allowed to interfere in Egypt.
