WAIKATO-WEST COAST.

LIGHT RAILWAY PROJECT. SOLICITOR S ACTION FOR COSTS. SETTLEMENT ARRANGED. The unsuccessful efforts of a few years ago to establish a light railway between Waikato and the West Coast, which went so far as getting a survey made, a railway district gazetted, and a constitution drawn up, but which, owing to organised opposition, was abandoned after a railway board had been set up, had its aftermatli in an action for £025 brought by the solicitors to the board, Messrs Watts and Armstrong, for the costs of obtaining the constitution. Considerable difficulty was experienced in obtaining the constitution, owing to the opposition of a considerable portion of the ratepayers, while a further difficulty was the necessity for obtaining special rolls for tho areas affected.

The defendant sued was George Parr, for whom Mr W. J. King acted, and at the instance of defendant the Provisional Board which had been first set up, and the elected board, were added as defendants. Mr G. P. Finlay acted for the elected board.

As a result of negotiations the board offered a sum of £512 10s in full settlement of the claim and costs, and Mr J. F. Strang, on behalf cf plaintiffs, accepted this.
