SEMI-FINAL GAMES

SYDNEY, June 10
The semi-finals in the New South Wales amateur golf championship were played to-day in showery weather. Both matches were keenly contested.
E. Apperly and Ivo Whltton were all square at the end of the morning round, and in the afLcrnoon Whitton was 2 up with G to play. Apperly then made a great effort and squared the match at the 15th hole and eventually won, 1 up. Smith was 1 up on Russell after the first 18 holes, and, though Russell twice squared the match, the younger player hung grimly to his task and won 1 up. A small party of the New Zcalarfd golfers who arc staying on in Sydney will fulfil the remaining fixtures.
AMERICAN OPEN TITLE. AMATEUR'S GOOD PLAY. (Australian and N.Z. Cable Assn.) NEW YORK, June 15. In the National open golf championship of America, which, is being played at Oakmont, Pennsylvania, J. Kirkwood, the former Australian and New Zealand open champion, with a score of 165 in the second round, was eliminated by two strokes from the championship. Johnston, an amateur player, Is leading, with a score of 147. The final round will be played tomorrow.
