RACING AT ELLERSLIE. THE AUCKLAND MEETING. CHAMPAGNE STAKES TO GASCONY. CIVILITY WINS TIIE EASTER. (Special to Times.) AUCKLAND, Saturday. Good conditions prevailed at Ellerslie to-day for the autumn meeting of the Auckland Racing Club. The track was in good order and there was a large attendance, who witnessed some splendid racing. Details are as follows : GREAT NORTHERN OAKS, Of £700; 1-J miles. 2 FLYING JULIET, Mr E. Robinson’s bIS f, by Romeo—Penella, . 3yrs., 8.10 (R. Reed) 1 1 LADY DESMOND, Mr T. Newman’s b f, by Limond—Bronze, 3yrs.,- 8.10 (J. Barry) 2 3 PHAOLA, Mr E- 11. B. Milsom’s ch f, by Catmint—Hyades, 3yrs., 8.10 (R. McTavish) .... 3 Also started: 5 Acushla, 8.10; 6 Mervette, 8.10; 4 .Tinoiti, 8.10. (Winner trained by 11. Eva, at To Aroha.) Lady Desmond was favourite, carrying more than twice as much as Flying Juliet, the second fancy. When the field had settled down, Acushla had charge, with Phaola and Flying Juliet together in front of Lady Desmond and Tinoiti, with Mervette last. The pace was slow, the first six' furlongs taking 1.21. I-lalf-a-mile from home they quickened up. Acushla led into the straight from Phaola, Tinoiti, Flying Juliet, Lady Desmond, with Mervette well back. . Flying Juliet stayed on to win easily by threequarters of a length from Lady Desmond, who was three lengths in front of Phaola. Acushla was fourth, followpd by Tinoiti and Mervette. Time, 2.38 3-5.

(Winner trained by owner at Ellerslic.) From a good start Royal Form, Mia Bella, Archibald and Royal Abbey were the first to show up. All negotiated the first two llights of hurdles safely, 1 but Gold Rain lost his rider at the third. They were well strung out entering the straight the first time, Kawa being in the lead. Passing the stand the first time Royal Form had taken command and was followed by Kawa, Passin' Through and Rangitahi. Passin' Through fell at the back and Royal Abbey hit a hurdle, dropping out. At the distance Glenotus made a game but unsuccessful challenge to beat Royal Form and Archibald. In a great finish there was not ,a head between the first three horses. Rangitahi finished fourth. Damaris dwelt on the mark and took no part in the race. When the field had settled down Cimabue had charge from Gascony, Silvermine, Paganelli, In the Shade, Exalted, Tea Lady and Covent Garden. Cimabue and Gascony were practically on terms entering the straight just in front of Paganelli, Silvermine and In the Shade. Paganelli tackled Gascony in the run to the judge, and in a great finish Gascony got home by a neck from Paganelli. In the Shade was a similar distance away third, and Cimabue fourth. Then came Covent Garden, Silvermine, Tea Lady and Exalted. Time, 1.14.
