NEW FABRICS.
IN FASCINATING VARIETY. I A fascinating variety of new matei rials for women’s wear,in which artificial silk has been blended with cotton and for which pleasing names have been chosen, is being produced by cotton manufacturers in . Lancashire. “This introduction of artificial | silk,” said the representative of a big ] Manchester shop to ! a London reporter, “brings materials nearer to crepe de Chine than anything else and for that reason is being much favoured for lingerie. One material, which is known as perle-de-Chine, has a finish almost equal to that of silk, and is made in many delicate shades. “Some of the new hand-printed voiles are really line examples of printing on cotton. These are mainly floral designs. “In some of the new cotton materials tinsel is effectively introduced. A feature of these goods is that the colours are fast and so are washable. Bordered voiles also seem to be popular. “Another new material, at present unnamed, is artificial silk with a vclour-like finish. This is much in demand for sports wear and jersey suits. Then there is a new material for outdoor wear —a weave of silk and wool, in self colours and shot effects.”
