HAMILTON SPORTS. The Hamilton Amateur Athletic and Cvcle Club’s annual meeting will be held on Easter Saturday at Steele Park, starting at 10.30 a.m., with a seven-a-side Rugby tournament. The entries for the cycle and athletic events constitute a record. Over 70 competitors will be competing. A. ,T. Elliot, ihe Auckland 1927 100 and 2°o champion, will be amongst the competitors. D. P. Deere, S. G. Ferguson and J. W. Shirley (New Zealand champion hop, step and jump and high jump), J. W. Savklan (New Zealand champion), M. J. Byrnes (Auckland champion cyclist), b. *>• Blakewell and F. J. Casey will also he here. ~ . . M J W. Shirley will attempt to break his own New Zealand record of 47ft 3in for the hop, step and jump, and, weather permitting, will attempt to clear 6ft in the High Jump. Given fine weathewa record attendance should reward the local club’s attempt to bring back athletics to its proper place in ihe Waikato. The club has on account of the depressed state of business, not gone to the tradespeople for any trophies, and it is hoped that it will reap its reward, as it is something out of the ordinary for ten provincial championships to be decided at an athletic meeting m the Waikato.
