ANSWERS TO CORRESPONDENTS. “Curious,” Morrinsville. —Merry Jest has won at up to seven furlongs. She is an Absurd, but even so a mile may - not be beyond her capabilities. She was only tw’ice out of a place in ten starts last season. “Classic,” Morrinsville. —In the Great Northern St. Lcger Stakes colts and geldings will carry 8.10 and fillies 8.8; 50 soys, go to the breeder of the winner. “Distance,” Hamilton. — (1) The Easter Handicap on the second day at Feilding is of one mile and a distance; (2) Sid Feld trained Nadarino last season.

612 ENTRIES FOR 16 RACES. , SUPPORT TO WAIKATO FIXTURE. If ever a testimony was required or the highly favourable view that owners and trainers hold of the racing surface.at the headquarters of the Waikato Club at To Rapa it is most readily given by the size and nature of the fields entered for the autumn meeting to be hold there on Saturday, April 30, and Wednesday, May 4. For the 16 events on the two days’ programme, a total of Cl2 horses have been nominated, which works out at the figurative average of 38} per race. This is a tally for nominations which must take some, beating for any meeting in the Dominion. The wisdom of placing a lontrer interval between the first and second days, from the viewpoint held by owners at anyrate, is shown by the •response of 335 horses for the second 'day's racing, as compared with 277 for the first day, which latter comes cn but three clear days after the concluding day of the Avondale meeting. A comparison of the figures for the various events this season, as against the last autumn meeting of the club, makes interesting reading. It shows:

Grand Totals . . 612 485

Increase for 1927: 127

EABTER FIXTURES. Sportsmen will have their interests well distributed at Easter, when there will be racing and trotting in various parts of the Dominion. The centre of attraction in this province will be the autumn meeting of* the Auckland Racing Club, which will be held on Saturday and Monday. The Feilding Club will race on the same days and there will be horses and patrons from the Waikato assisting at that meeting. Riverton, Tuapeka, and Waipukurau Clubs are also holding Easter programmes, while the popular gathering of the Canterbury Jockey Club is set down for Monday and Tuesday of next week, at which the Great Easter and Great Autumn Handicaps will be among important events. Patrons of trotting will be catered for by the Hawera Club and the JN.z. Metropolitan, which will carry out their programmes on Saturday ana Monday.
