Dr. and Mrs Gilbcrd, of Auckland, arc at the Hamilton Hotel. Mr and Mrs F. E. Bryant, of Wellington, arc visiting the town. They arc at the Hamilton Hotel. Mr and Mrs L. T. Itapson and the Misses Rapson, of Auckland, arc at the Grand Central Hotel. Mr J. Pohlen, of Matamata, has gone to Australia .for a three weeks’ holiday. Mr and Mrs J. Smith and Miss G. Coombcs (Invercargill), and Mr W. S. Green (Melbourne) arc at the Commercial Hotel.
Mr 11. Morgan (Wanganui) and Mr A. T. Thompson, (Auckland), are among the guests at the Grand Central Hotel. The Minister of Health (the Hon. J. A. Young) will leave Wellington’ tomorrow for Hamilton, lie will return to Wellington on Tuesday next.
Rev. C. W. Turner, of Matamata, is making a good recovery from his recent serious illness, and will take a short holiday before resuming his duties.
Sir Gerald Strickland, Conservative M.P. for Lancaster, lias notified the chairman of the Lancashire Conservatives Association that he does not intend to seek re-election to the seat. Rev. Athol R. Penn, son of Mr and Mrs Frank Penn, of Cambridge, left on Monday for Canterbury to take up the position of probationary minister at the Methodist Church at Sumner. Rev. J. W. Parker and Mrs Parker and family arrived at Cambridge last night, from Springdon, Canterbury. Mr Parker will take charge of the Cambridge Methodist Church immediately.
In recognition of the completion by the Rev. D. D. Scott, of Onehunga, of 21 years’ service in the Presbyterian Church there, the Auckland Presbytery entertained him at dinner last evening. The presentation of a cheque was made to Mr Scott, and Mrs Scott received a gold pencil. The lion. 0. J. Hawkcn, Minister of Agriculture, will leave Taranaki on April 19 for Hamilton, where he will spend a day. lie will reach Auckland on the evening of April 20, and proposes to proceed immediately to Whangarcl for a week's tour of North Auckland.
On the recommendation of the president and council of the Royal Society Professor Joseph William Mcllor, doctor of science of the. New Zealand University, will receive the fellowship of the Royal Society. Dr Mellor is director of the British Refractories Association, principal of the Pottery School, Stoke-on-Trent, and honorary secretary of tho Ceramic Society.
