AMERICA’S RISING RATE. INSURANCE CO.’S FIGURES. (Australian and N.Z. Cable Assn.) * (Received January 31, 9.10 a.m.) WASHINGTON, January 30. The Metropolitan. Life Insurance Company, the largest of its kind in America, has announced that the death rate from alcoholism among the company’s 17,000,000 policy holders was greater in 1926 Ilian in any year since 1917. Tiie rate in 1926 was 3.7 per 100,000. In 1926 the rate was three limes as great as in 1920, which year was the lowest ever recorded. The highest rate was 5.3 in 1912. The announcement slates that unless the current trend of deaths from alcoholism is chocked 1928 will he a record rate, being as high as any year since 1911, which is the earliest for which data are available for industrial populations.
