Hill (Technical Old Boys’ Junr.), 5 for 13. FRANKTON v. HAMILTON EAST. In the Frankton-Hamilton East match, which opened at Sodden Park, Frankton hatted first. Three wickets had fallen cheaply when Williams and F. Hawke restored confidence by a carefully-played partnership. F. Hawke was dismissed with 15 runs' to his credit by a great catch by Badeley. With five wickets down for 39 Frankton’s prospects did not seem too bright, but Connolly stepped into the breach and helped Rabone to make a stand. ■Connolly made only nine runs, but his innings was a valuable one, for he held the wicket for Rabone. This player batted a splendid innings, scoring all round the wicket and compiling G 9 before he was caught smartly in the slips by Going. Ilis score included five fours and two sixes. ,T. Ewan batted well for 23, making several fine drives, and the innings closed for the satisfactory total of 185. Dufty was the most successful bowler, with an average of four wickets for 2(5 runs. Badeley and Herrick laid a good foundation to Hamillon East’s innings. Badeley played excellent cricket, and made 39 runs before being caught by Rabone in the long field. Herrick played a careful innings for 18. Dufty made three of his characteristic clean boundary shots and then fell to a hot catch by Cobbe. 'Morton was shaping very well and added 16 to the total when he hit the wicket. Stumps were drawn with eight wickets down fop 116, Moycs carrying his bat. It will be interesting to see -whether the remaining batsmen, Morris and R. Johnston, can bring the score near Frankton’s total.
Williams, who put up an average of five wickets for 22 runs, is a bowler who should go far. He has a good run and arm-swing and uses great iudgment. Old Boys v. Hamilton.
]n Okl Boys’ first innings against I Tamil! on the first four wickets wont for 3T>. Wilson and Gibbons stopped the rot and look the score to 10G. Gibbons was caught at the wicket after a forceful innings for 39. Wilson (33) took no risks, but scored off any loose stuff. The extras (29) were heavy, but Eggleston was hardly to blame, as too many halls went down on the leg side. Eggleston took three smart catches behind the stumps.
Hamilton batted for two hours and 30 minutes, establishing a lead of 108 runs. Pomeroy, who opened with Eggleston, was getting into his stride when he was caught by Moir in the long-held. He failed to get right on to the ball, or it would have been a sixer. Eggleston left the crease at 31, which included six fours, succumbing to a trimmer from D. Hawke that came in a little. Christian and Taylor were the top scorers, added 24 to an innings that closed at 258. R. Allen did the hat trick, getting Dalton, Christian and Farquhar with successive balls.
