HOUSEHOLD HINTS.
Care of the Mangle. —Never leave t mangle with the rollers tightly screwed' when not in use, for the strain weakens the parts. The rollers should be carefully cleaned and thoroughly dried after washing-day. Oil the working parts occasionally, and remove all dust, grease, and fluff. To clean the mangle use a soft rag soaked with paraffin for the cogs, etc., and warm soapy water for the iron framework, llnally rinsing it in clean water and wiping it dry. Rubber rollers need turpentine to clean them and free them from the effects of soap. If wooden rollers have cracked, the spaces may he fllled with some waterproof wood lining to be obtained from oil and colour merchants. It can he worked in, with an old penknife and smoothed down. In a few days’ time the filling will be set, and the rollers should then be rubbed with some fine glasspaper. If the mangle is kept in an outside shed it should he kept covered. Meat in the Larder. —Uncooked meat should be hung from a hook and covered in a muslin bag which has been sprinkled wtih pepper. Do not keep it longer than necessary. - If a part becomes tainted, cut it off and throw it away, then wash the rest of the. meat, in water to which a little vinegar has been added. Cooked meat should be put on a clean dish every day,' protected by a meat cover or put in the safe. Bacon should be hung in peppered muslin bags.
