VANITIES FOR WOMEN.
DECORATIVE DOLLS. The decorative dolly who covered our telephones and concealed our powder boxes from inquisitive eyes has now turned her attention to the reading lamp. You skim through the pages of the latest novel in good company, for a dainty-faced damsel smiles down upon you and her voluminous rosy-apricot skirts protect your eyes from any glare (says a writer in an exchange). There never has been such a doll period as this, and wc cannot smile any more at the men who play with their small sons’ engincsA Only the doily we take out to tea clasped in our arms is no longer a limp bundle of silk and noLbing else. The newest dol:s are handbags as well, and allow you to stuff lots of odds and ends into their satin-lined insides. Pierrot is still the favourite.
Orange, the pink-tinted variety, seems to be the popular colour for presents. Alabaster clock frames of glowing orange and jade green, and orange linen tea cloths trimmed with coffee-coiourcd lacc, with mats and tea-knives all to match, were some, of the gifts I have seen selected and dispatched direct from my pet gift shop. An orange tea table looks heartening and inviting, and the bright cloth alone seems to light up the room. Besides, it is a better washing colour than mauve or blue, the next favourjtes.
