PRICES AT TRENTHAM 1025GNS. THE TOP. (By Telegraph. —Press Association.! WELLINGTON, Friday. A new era in yearling and blood stock sales in New Zealand was commenced to-day at Treritham with the first of the national sales, which are intended to be an annual event in conjunction with the summer meeting of the Wellington Racing Club. Prices took a wide range, four figures being obtained for the best lots, while some went for a mere song, or were passed in. Several new owners were operating, and some of Ihe lots so secured will he trained at Trentham. The Auckland trainers, Messrs J. T. Jamieson and J. Buchanan operated freely for their patrons. The highest price of the sale (1025gns), was given by the latter trainer for the bay colt by Absurd from Bronze (brother to Glenross, Grotesque, and Anklet), bred by Mr G. M. Currie. This price was closely followed by the 1000 guineas given by Messrs J. C. and P. S. Gleeson, of Auckland, for the brown gelding by Soll’erino from Rose Red (brother of Muscari, and half brother to Raceful and Zouave), which was sold by Messrs Pyne, Gould, Guinness, Limited, and Messrs Win. Inglis and Son, for Mr J. F. Reid, owner of the Burnside stud. Mr A. B. Williams gave 900 guineas for the bay colt by Paladinc from Sweet Charity. The hay colt by Kilbroney from Oratress (winner of the New Zealand Gup and Wellington Gup), brought 800 guineas, being purchased by the Trcntham trainer, 11. B. Lorigan, for a new patron. The brown colt by Paper Money from Puttee (half-brother to Killocra) brought 775 guineas, Hie youngster being purchased for Melbourne. A similar price was obtained for the hay filly by Paper Money from Epitaph. Mr G. D. Greenwood gave 725 guineas for the bay colt by Absurd from Cherry Mart (a half brother to Mandanc), and Mr AY. Scholium, of Auckland, paid the same price for a chestnut filly, full sister to Agrion (by Limond, from Walcrwings), winner of the A.B.G. Royal Stakes. The hay colt by Martian from Songbird’s sister Kildee, was passed at 800 guineas. Two Jots at GOO guineas were the brown gelding by Leighton from Blade bought by Mr E. L. Riddiford, and the brown colt by Paladin from AVar Lady, a close relation of Star Stranger and Naos. Mr 11. P. F. Blundell, of Wellington, (he owner of Diogenes, gave 700 guineas for a bay colt by Tea Tray from Lady Cilia, who is a half-brother to the Canterbury Gup winner Gasbag. Horses from This District.
