A PRISONER SENTENCED. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, Thursday. John Albert Roberts was sentenced at the Police Court to six months' imprisonment,, the sentences being cumulative, on each of two charges of issuing valueless cheques totalling £56 18s, and for unlawfully converting to his own use a car valued at £229, the property of Williams' Rental Cars, Ltd. Accused had previously been on probation for two years, and had received two years' imprisonment for false pretences. SUCCESSFUL MESSAGE. DUNEDIN, Wednesday. As the result of a wireless message broadcast from Sydney last night and received at Masterton, asking Edward Albert Barnes, of New South Wales, to return immediately to Coogee, where his mother was dying, Mr Barnes was located at a Dunedin hotel and was able to - catch the train for the North this morning. AFTER-HOURS' TRADING. CHRISTCHURCH, Wednesday. "When the police raided the King George Hotel on the evening of December 11 last the licensee, John Coffey, instead of admitting them when they came to the door went back to warn a number of men who were in the bar after hours. To-day Coffey was fined £lO for selling liquor after hours and £2 for delaying the police. The barman, William O'Loughlin, was fined £3 for supplying liquor after hours and the patrons of the bar £1 each for being illegally on the premises.
