Mr D. Jervois, of Wellington, and Mr A. E. Allison, of Auckland, are among the guests at the Hamilton HoteL The Hon. F, J. Rolleston, AttorneyGeneral, Minister of Justice and Defence and acting-Minister of Railways, arrived in Auckland from Wellington this morning. Councillor C. J. W. Barton and the town clerk (Mr W. L. Waddell) will represent the Hamilton Council at the Municipal Conference at Palmerston North. Mr G. L. Gillies, has resigned his position as instructor in agriculture at the Timaru Buys' High SchooL and has left for Hobart to take up the appointment of chief agricultural instructor in Tasmania. Owing to indifferent health Mr W. H. Millward has resigned his seat on the board of directors of the Gear Company, Ltd., of which he has been ohairman for a considerable time. His connection with the company extends over a period of nearly 43 years. Recently the Japanese newspaper Nichi Nichi Shimbun offered a world tour as the prize in an essay competition on the subject of "The PacificFifty Years After." The winner of that competition was Mr Takiji Miyoshi, and he arrived in Sydney on January 12 by the Tango Maru. After his visit to Sydney he will come to New Zealand, and later will visit South America, the United States, Europe, and India, studying industrial problems by the way. Mr Miyoshi is 30 years of age, and has taken a course in applied science at the Higher Polytechnic School in Tokyo. He speaks only a little English.
