SCHOLARSHIPS.
KING'S COLLEGE, AUCKLAND. The extension of the system of granting scholarships at King's College is steadily developing. At the beginning of 1926 three boardingscholarships of the annual value of £9O per annum were granted. £3500 has been given towards the capital sum required to maintain these scholarships, namely:—£looo by Mr A. C. Caughley, of Auckland; £ISOO by the will of the late Sir John Logan Campbell, and £IOOO from the estate of Lissie Rathbonc (deceased), Waipawa. The holders of these scholarships must have qualified for a Junior National Scholarship, but all round attainments are taken into consideration. The boys appointed in 192(5 were P. C. Ballantyne from Bangui school; P. E. Holmes from Epsom school, and B. G. Thomson from Takapuna school. All three boys continue to hold the scholarships in 1927. During the last few months a further £2OOO has been added to the scholarship fund by the generosity of the late Sir Arthur M. Myers, and of Mr A. S. Bankart, of Auckland. This money has been set aside to provide one scholarship each year tenable for at least three years by boys from nonState Preparatory schools in th 3 Dominion, that prepare boys for colleges similar to King's. This scholarship is open to boarders and pay-boys alike and will be given each year—on Rhodes Scholarship lines —for a boarder £SO, and for a day-boy £2O per annum. The first Myers-Bankart scholar is Master John Male of Southwell School, Hamilton. Before next February two boarding scholarships of the annual value of £9O will be given to boys applying to enter King's College, who have been successful in the recent Junior Na- ■ tional Scholarship Examinations.
