TO-DAY'S PLAY. DUNEDIN, Tuesday. .... The Plunket Shield; match, Otago v. Auckland, was resumed in fine weather, the., wicket being as good as on the first day. Blamircs, who was injured yesterday, did not field. Cooper (56) and Gillespie (18) resumed Auckland's second innings (two for 21) to the bowling of Torrance and Blunt. When Cooper had added three he returned a hot one to Blunt, who failed to hold the ball. The batsmen ran a single, but had Blunt hit the wickets with the return Gillespie would have been run out.- With the total at 230 Gillespie hit a slack' one from Blunt into mid-off hands; 3—26 —230. Three balls later Cooper stepped in front of one from the same bowler: 4 —66—231. The retiring batsman was, at the wickets for 118 minutes for 60. •Allcott and Dacre were associated, the former's first four scoring strokes including three fours. Dacre Opened quietly, but lifted Torrance over the fence,, the first six of the match. Blunt's next Over saw 260 hoisted, Dacre square-cutting him for four and notching three to fine-leg. Alcott reachecl 20 by driving Torrance to the on boundary. " Dickinson replaced Blunt, Dacre taking five from the over. Shepherd relieved Torrance, Dacre reaching 30 with a pretty glance to the square-leg boundary. Alcott gave a chance off Dickinson the next over, cutting through Blair's hands in the slips. At noon Auckland had lost four wickets for 303, after three hours 50 minutes' play. ' Alloo took Dickinson's place when the score was 312, but Dacre relished slack stuff, reaching the half-century with a lovely drive along the carpet for four, scoring another boundary off the next. Blunt came on again in place of Shepherd, but Dacre and Alcott continued to score freely, the over fetching nine. Shepherd replaced Alloo, Alcott reaching 40 by turning Shepherd to leg for two, the extras at this stage being 33. The batsmen were scoring at a rapid rate, Alcott hoisting 360 with a drive to the off, boundary. Torrance replaced Shepherd, the over producing only a single. ' Dacre, with the score at 78, drove Torrance hard into A. W. Alloo's hands at mid-on, but the chance was not accepted. Dacre reached 80 a couple of balls later. Seven were scored' off Blunt's next over, but the scoring slackened, Dacre notching three from Torrance and Alcott a single.

Auckland's Rapid Scoring. H. C. Alloo relieved Blunt, but the change had no effect, Dacre reaching 90 with'an off drive for a brace. Al-," cott brought his 60 up by lifting Torrance for four just out of Zimmerman's reach. Four hundred appeared after four hours, 44 minutes' play. Zimmerman replaced Torrance, Dacre reaching his century in this over after 98 minutes at the wickets, his innings including only one chance. At the luncheon adjournment Auckland had lost four, wickets for 419, the Dacro-Alcott partnership having realised 188 in one" hour 58 minutes. The rate of scoringslackened somewhat. With the score at 428 Dacre lifted Zimmerman to point, Blunt, who had been fielding brilliantly, bringing off a line catch. Dacre was at the wickets for 111 minutes, his score including 11 fours, and one six. He gave only one chance, playing a fine forcible innings. The partnership produced 197 runs. Prater joined Alcott and opened with a short single, Alcott placing Zimmerman nicely to the square leg boundary. Four hundred and forty appeared when Fratcr square-cut Shepherd sweetly for four. At seven Prater was dropped by .Dickinson to square lcg_ orf Shepherd. Two balls later Prater was out hit wicket, the score reading 447 for six wickets.

HAMILTON E. V. CAMBRIDGE.

A team representing Hamilton East Senior B met a team from Cambridge at Steele Park on Monday, January 3, and although the weather conditions were not the best, both sides mustered two full teams, the game was enjoyed by all. Mr L. Steel performed the hat trick, besides making his average in the first innings six wickets for 3 runs. Lee also bowled wejl, taking four wickets for 12 runs.
