DARING THIEVES.

LOOT WORTH £2OOO. At midday two thieves broke a showcase in front of the Blue Bird Cafe, in the busiest part of Collins Street, Melbourne, and stole gems and watches worth £2OOO. Thousands of people were passing along the street at the time, but the robbers worked quickly. The showcase is used by the Direct Supply Jewellery Company, and the door was held fast by two Yale locks. Entrance was gained to the Blue Bird Cafe, which is closed for renovations. Working from the shop, the thieves wrenched off both locks and grabbed the jewellery. W. Boss, manager of the safe, saw two "well-dressed men dash into Flinders Lane.
