SHOW "GATES."

AT PALMERSTON NORTH. ATTENDANCE 27,000. Matters in connection with the gates came before the monthly meeting of the general committee of the Manawatu A. and P. Association, when Mr M. A. Eliott, senior gale steward, presented his report in connection with the recent show.

In so doing, Mr Eliott stated that it was satisfactory to record an increase of £9l 18s Cd over the previous show. "This increase," he proceeded, "was not expected as several circumstances were against an improvement, namely, the adverse conditions ruling among the farming community generally; the blockage in the Gorge railway, and the bad weather on the morning of the second day. The increase is, therefore, all the more welcome, and it must be attributed in a large extent to the business people of Palmerston North, who, in response to a special request, generously agreed to close on two afternoons, for which they deserve the best thanks of this committee. "The following arc the figures for each of the three days:—

"1924 was the Royal Show and must, therefore, he omitted for comparison purposes, so lhat we are £IOO ahead of 1923, and £92 ahead of 1925. The total of those who paid cash at the gates during the three days was 10,114 adults, 3407 children. "The analysis of previous shows proves that only about 50 per cent, of those on the grounds pay at the gates; the remainder arc made up by members, exhibitors and those contesting events, etc., so that the total attendance on the grounds during the three days was approximately 27,000. • Parking of Motor Cars. "The ■* cry satisfactory increase in the number of cars parked proves that the public are gradually availing themselves of the privilege, as the following figures show:— Ist day. 2nd day. 3rd day. Total. 1925 6 cars 92 cars 97 cars 195 cars 1926 12 cars 120 cars 207 cars 315 cars .. "When it is considered that we admit the cars of members or non-members at 2s per car and provide hot water free and have a staff to lcok after the safely of the cars, it is surprising that more do not avail themselves of the facility. The charge is certainly reasonable, especially in view of the fact that at the Hawkc's Bay Show the charge is 5s per car."
