The work was begun to-day of preparing the quarters on the batcupied by the Duke and Duchess of York when they travel to New Zcatleship Renown which are to bo ocland and Australia. The final returns from the British municipal elections show that in 254 towns in England and Wales the Conservatives elected totalled 694. They gained 52 seats and lost 95. The Liberals elected totalled 316, 21 seats were gained and Gi were lost. Labout’ had 514 candidates elected, gained 205 scats and tost 59. The Independents elected totalled 501, seats gained 24 and seats lost 87. Guy Fawkes Day was celebrated by the wildest “ragging” at Gambridge. Late at night the undergraduates held an impromptu display of fireworks in the market place. They extinguished the street lamps and threw hags of. flour at the townspeople. The latter divided, some siding with the police and others with the “raggers.” Disorderly scenes followed. These were only quelled when the police drew their truncheons. Fifty persons were arrested. As a result of the bookmakers’ strike the Racecourse Owners’ Association will meet next week to consider the introduction of the totalisator. This fact has brought to an end the artificial calm which followed Prince Charles’ renunciation of his right of succession to the throne. BUDA PEST, Nov. 6. There was a sensation at the opening of the Hungarian Parliament today. The Premier, Count Bethiden, declared that it was not only the right but the duty of Parliament, io elect Hungary’s future King. This declaration was made in the course ol' a debate on a proposal to establish a House of Lords. It opens the door for a dozen contenders to propagate their claims to the throne, and is. regarded as minimising the chances of Prince Otto. MADRID, Nov. 5. It is officially reported that Iho rebel leader, Jeriro, was lulled and his chief lieutenant was severely wounded in the recent fighting between the Spaniards and the Beni Kler tribesmen in Morocco.
