DAY BY DAY.
Recent remarks by Dr. Cyril Norwood,
Modern Boys of The Right Stuff.
Headmaster of liarrow, make cheerful reading for those who were
inclined to think that the boy of to-day is not his father's equal. Dr. Norwood says that he does "not agree with the al lacks which we,sec from lime to lime on I lie general character of modern youth." His opinion, being lhe result of first-hand observation of boys for many years, carries great weight, and his judgment is, indeed, beyond question. Modern boys arc made of the right slurr, and they will find, when the time comes, that all the highest positions in lhe country are open to those of them who are prepared to work hard and who possess the requisite intelligence and determination. In fact, the very qualities that education and sport implant in a boy's mind are the qualities which he will require later on. Influence and rank count for less and less in the world. In these days of strenuous, and even international, competition it is only flic best men who can rise to the top. There is no job that is not open lo the boy of to-day, and no position beyond his grasp. It all depends ,upon the boy himself and upon his willingness to work and learn. And that is why Dr Norwood's optimistic remarks upon modern youth suggest a bright future for this country.
