DETECTIVE ROBBED.

Peculiar circumstances were concerned with the theft of jewellery and clothing from Detective-Sergeant Wickham's house, in Victoria Street, Waverley, New South Wales. The thieves were disturbed by the detective's children, when they came home from school, but escaped with a suitcase packed with jewellery, cutlery, and clothing. About ten minutes later, Detective-Sergeant Prior and Detective Gilbert saw two men in Oxford Street, who looked suspicious, The men evidently realised that they were being watched, and escaped, one jumping off a train in Oxford Street, and leaving the suitcase and goods behind him.
