CHEAP ELECTRIC STOVES.
BOARD CONSIDERING SCHEME. “There are 613 heating meters installed in the district,” said Mr E. H. Boyd at a meeting of the Central Power Board yesterday, “and people are paying about 4s 9d a month for ironing and the same for meter rent. There arc 2387 lighting installations and the poles carrying the current should be put to more use. Electric stoves should be more generally used in the country districts, and until we can install them at a reasonable figure we are letting these opportunities go to waste.” Continuing, Mr Boyd said that farmers’ meals were irregular owing to firing arrangements and the polioy of the board as regards the installation of stoves had been too conservative. He advocated that the deposit on stoves at purchase be reduced to 5 per cent.., which would enable more subscribers to install them. Mr Livingstone said that if terms were going to be reduced on stoves they should be reduced correspondingly on milking machines. 9 Mr Lee Martin suggested that the agents from whom the board secured its supplies of stoves should he approached and asked to ; reduce their prices, which would enable the board to .sell more cheaply. Failing (his a good English agency might he secured by the board, enabling stoves to be indented and save money to the consumers. This suggestion was embodied in & resolution providing that a comp-ehen-sivc report be drawn up dealing with the whole matter of the purchase and disposal of stoves, to be presented at the board’s next meeting.
