CENTRAL POWER BOARD

MONTHLY MEETING. I,OAN FLOATED. j !-. . I | The Central Power Hoard met yes- ! j tardily morning. Mr T. Hinton prcsidirift. There were also present Messrs | 11. H. Reecho (secretary), .1. It. Kills j (engineer), A. Livingstone, \V. Henry, | S. Saulbrey, K. F. Pearoeko, J. J. ! ' Ryburn, Cl. 11. Hovd. and AY. Lee Mar- | tin. Advice was received from the hoard's solicitor in 'Wellington that the recently authorised loan of £24,000 had been secured from the Australasian Temperance and General Mutual Life j Assurance Society, Ltd., at 52 per cent t per annum, payable half-yearly, for a : term of 3G£ years. Debentures of j £IOOO each were to be issued. A letter was received from Mr n. If. i Dobblc claiming compensation for a horse killed through being electrocuted by contact with a live wire. The board’s engineer, Mr J. R. Dills, ex- i j plained that the accldcr 1 , was due to ” a low-tension wire which had been broken by a falling tree and bad not been deadened. The night was dark and Ihe omission was an easy one to make. All correspondence dealing with the matter was referred to the insurance company. Mr Ryburn moved that tho clause in Ihe engineer's report advocating the earthing of low-tension wires be given immediate efTccl to. Objections to Ihe recent erection by ihe Power Board of power poles on Hie western side of the town were received from the liunt.ly Town Board. Mr Million explained that a compromise had been arranged whereby beautifying work in the vicinity of the poles would lie undertaken. Negotiations by the board with Mr j Bisley, of Ward street, to secure hifc : premises for offices resulted in a letter j from Mr Bislcy offering Hie board a : three years’ lease at a rental of £,'300 1 per annum. Tho main objection to the Toorak I Chambers offices was that the strong- I room was not considered fire-proof ! and, being on the upper floor, it indicted inconvenience on customers paying their accounts. It was thought that the Ward street, premises would permit of a more extensive display of stoves and electric equipment, and in addilion lo being more centrally situated they had a good strongroom. The chairman did not consider that il was in ihe interests of ratepayers ! to undertake Hie expense of moving and also the rent was higher Ilian at 1 Toorak Chambers. It was resolved, on Mr Livingstone’s motion, to refer the mailer of accommodation to the Finance Committee for a report.
