INFLUENZA OUTBREAK.

EFFECT ON SCHOOL ATTENDANCE,

LESSENING IN SEVERITY

(By Telcgr.-ph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Monday.

Influenza is depleting the attendances at schools, but so far the authorities have not thought it necessary to close the schools. A rumour lo this effect was current on Saturday, but was promptly denied. It was stated that though many scholars were absent the epidemic was not serious enough to warrant closing down. Most of the pupils were only absent a day or two, and the trouble showed signs of lessening in severity.
