THE COSSACKS TO-NIGHT. The famous Don Cossacks, who recently created a great sensation at the Queen’s Hall and the Albert Hall, London, will give a concert in Hamilton to-night, at the Theatre Royal. The London Times critic, in writing of their London performance, said: “They thrilled as few other choirs have thrilled. The Don Cossacks have been compared to a large organ played by a master, and the simile is an apt one. There Ls the majestic full organ, the. variety of solo stops, the voix celeste with closed box; and all the time them is the deep and resonant tone of the pedal organ in proper subordination, and yet affording Iho foundation on which the whole harmony is built.” The programme generally opens with a group of religious songs, followed by two groups of secular selections. Among these Russian folk songs are naturally to the fore, and the familiar Volga Boat Song is always received with great, enthusiasm. The conductor (Serge JarolT) and Hie choir are always strenuously applauded, and acknowledge the appreciation of the audience by adding sonic merry numbers, including an excellent dance by two nimble members of the choir. The plans are at Lewis R. Eady and Son’s, Ltd., where reserves may be had at 7s Od (plus tax). The choir comes here under the direction of E. .T. Carroll, who brought us Krcisler and the Sistine Choir. , “A RUNAWAY GIRL.” There is no doubt that “A Runaway Girl,” to be presented for a five-nights* season, commencing to-morrow, will be the Hamilton Operatic Society’s most successful production.
