SALE IN SOUTH AFRICA.

PRICES OF STOCK. Tlie MidLeburg Stock Fairs, Ltd., sale uf sheep (says a South African paper) was probably the largest the company lias ever held. Upwarus of •loud head were penned and practically everything was sold L prices in advance of those ruling since tlie beginning of Liie jear. Buyers attended from all parts of the country, aud the competition l'er all classes of stock, except a few pais of drought-stricken animals was strong throughout. The demand fur slaughter stock was keen and some outstanding prices were realised. Mr Aiwijn Vorsler got 30s for his bastard liamels and 27s Gd for fat old ewes. Mr Jack Bowker 30s for his 1 pens of Merino liamels; Mr Hough got 25s 3d for merino liamels; Mr J. 11. Venter got 22s for shorn liameis; Mr Oorrie v.d. Walt 28s for Persian liamels and Mr Van Zyl got 2is for Persian liamels. Persians sold wed, hainels malting up to 28s und lambs at 20s 3d, while merino lambs were again eagerly bid for and fetched up to 20s Gd which Mr G. van Aswcgan got for his pens. A fair number of slaughter oxen were offered and sold well, Hie highest figure being £ll 17s Gd while slaughter cows made £S ss. Trek oxen were bought at moderate prices, but there was little or no demand for breeding cattle. Our next sale lakes place on May 21. Sellers need not be afraid that they will net be abis to obtain pens, as we have decided to make ample provision for penning all stock' entered in the future.

At Keck and Kruger’s April sale there were 1500 small stock on offer. Everything was sold at the following prices, with the exception of a few odd lots, the demand for fat slaughter slock and merino ewes remaining linn: —

Beer goat kapaters, from 13s Gd to 225; young merino liamels, 21s 7d to 23s 2d; Persian and bastard slaughter slock, l-'is lo 25s Gd; merino Darnel lambs, tis io 20s; merino ewe lambs, 22s 3d to 25s Gd; Persian owes, JGs io 19s Gd; merino ewes, 23s to 23s 9.1: slaughter oxen, £7 to £l2 5s- trek oxen, £3 10s lo £5 JOs; slaughl/T cows, £7 to £7 tns; heifers, from' £2 12s Gd lo £3 10s; milk cows, from £7 to £7 10s. Our next sale takes place on May 20.
