STABILISATION OF PREFERENCE APPROVED BY THE COMMONS. (Router.') LONDON, June 7. The House of Commons in the committee stage of the Finance Bill adopted the clause to establish Imperial preference for JO years by 231 votes to 115. A Labour amendment to reduce the period lo two years was first rejected. Labour memebrs contended that the Government was not justified in proposing an arrangement which should lie in operation beyond its possible tenure of office. Mr ltonald McNeill, Financial Secrotary to the Treasury, in replying, pointed out that no Government could bind its successors, but he challenged Ihe Labour members to declare their intention to abolish the Imperial preference stabilisation clause. The committee agreed to a rcmismission of Customs duties on antiques.
