FALL .OF 70 FEET.

FROM CHURCH SPIRE SCAFFOLD. A WORKMAN KILLED. Frederick Torgorson, 25. scal'folder, fell 70 feet from the spire's scaffolding at St. Paul's Cathedral, Melbourne, and was killed. Torgerson and five other men, including a foreman, were standing on a platform above the east door of the cathedral waiting for a crane to leave a truck on the landing. When the truck was a few feet above the platform Torgerson put out a hand to steady it. Ho grasped a scaffold pole with the other hand. Suddenly the truck swung away, and, though there was nothing to give him a Arm grip, Torgerson still clung to it. He lost his footing and fell into a yard. He died on arrival at the hospital. This was the second fatal accident since the building of the spires commenced. Albert Hollinhead, carpenter, employed on the new nurse's home at Alfred Hospital, fell from a roof and was admitted to hospital with a fractured jaw, compound fracture of a leg, fractured wrist,, and shock. His condition is serious.
