Heavy rain had fallen in (he night and the weather to-day was dull. The wicket, however, had been fully protected. Carr won the loss and North of England batted. Sutcliffe and Holmes opened the innings to the bowling of Gregory and Ryder. Only four overs had been sent down when it commenced to rain again, and the light was very poor.
