LAUNCH CAPSIZES.
TWO MEN DROWNED. GREYMOUTH, Monday. A tragic termination to a fishing expedition occurred at the mouth of tho Grey River at about 0.30 last evening, when a boat capsized on the south tip, and ihe three occupants were thrown into the water. Only one, who clung lo the overturned boat, was rescued. One victim was Robert ("Bluff") Steele, of Blaketown, a miner, employed at Rcwanui, aged <ia. The other man missing Is unknown, being a stranger lo Grcymoulh, but believed to be named Dargill. The survivor is John Gamble, a miner, resident here. The tragedy occurred when the party was returning to the mouth of the river. Although the boat carried sail this was not hoisted, and Ihe men were using paddles to bring Ihe craft in. The boat was apparently caught by the incoming current and carried broadside on to the rocks at the end of the south tip head. Before the men could scramble ashore another wave carried the boat Off the rocks and capsized it. A launch set out to the rescue. Steele was a married man and leaves seven children.
