The men started work al G o'clock, Ibis morning, but bad no sooner commenced their duties when the, river suddenly rose 3ft. in as many minutes, coming down wjlh a tremendous force. After a series of adventures and with the assistance of companions on Ihe shore the two men succeeded in making dry laud in an exhausted stale.
