RESCUE FROM DROWNING. Bv telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Monday. the. rapid rise in the Hull River led lo Iwo residents of Lower Hull, Messrs. F. Davis and Harry Duthie, very nearly losing their lives. They arc employees of the Public Works Department, and are employed on the pontoon Borne steam navvy that draws shingle from the bed of the Hull Hivor between ihe Lower Hull bridge and the new railway bridge. The men started work al G o'clock, Ibis morning, but bad no sooner commenced their duties when the, river suddenly rose 3ft. in as many minutes, coming down wjlh a tremendous force. After a series of adventures and with the assistance of companions on Ihe shore the two men succeeded in making dry laud in an exhausted stale.
