THE DAIRYING INDUSTRY.
CONFERENCE OF COMMITTEES. A conference of members of committees connected with the New Zealand Co-operative Dairy Company’s cheese interests was held in Hamilton yesterday. Mr Dynes Fulton, chairman of directors, presided. Mr W. Good follow, managing-director, Mr H. 11. Sterling, general manager, and several directors were present.
Mr Sterling was given a cordial welcome.
It wis unanimously resolved to request the management to urge the cheese companies operating in the Waikato to bring pressure to bear on ihe Government to allow of the exportation of standardised cheese. Mr Gocdl'eliow explained that the butler-fat content of cheese varied according to conditions prevailing during a season, and under present circumstances cheese had to bo exported with Hie natural butter-fat content as it was made. It was desirable, lie said, that the bullor-fat content should be Cxed at a uniform standard throughout Hie season. The meeting decided to recommend Unit the annual conference of inc company’s commitlces should be he hi in Hamilton during Show Week. A resolution was also adopted approving of Hie council system for election of members of tho'Dairy Control Board and endorsing the board’s policy of absolute control.
PRODUCTION OF CHEESE. WAIKATO COMPANY’S OUTPUT. A statement regarding cheese production, quality and payouis was made yesterday to a conference of choose sup-pliers’ committeemen, by Mr W. Goodfellow, managing director of iho New Zealand Co-operative Daily Co., Ltd. Mr Goodfellow staled that the quanlity of cheese manufactured by the company to March 31 was 4200 tons, with an average grade of 91.4, as compared with 4G2G tons for tiic 1924-25 season, and the average advance payment had been Is 5.3 d per pound bill ter-fat. In referring to the final payment made by the company’s cheese factories for Hie previous season Mr Goodfellow said some of tlie results obtained were exceedingly satisfactory. Tile company’s Shelly Beacli factory had paid Is 8.79 d, the East Tamaki factory Is 8.89 d, the Matamata factory Is 5.35 d, and several oilier factories over Is Bd. The lowest price paid at any of 1.113 cheese factories was Is 7.13 d. These returns, lie said, vindicated to ihc full the company’s consignment policy, •which for the season under review, hml given a return in many eases more, than 2d a pound above those of factories which had sold f.o.b. Referring to Hie final payment , for Hie current season Mr Goodfellow said that cheese manufactured in December was now being marketed, and in consequence it was too early io accurately forecast the iinal prices. He doubted, however, if returns this year would lie quite as satisfactory as lasi.
