ACCIDENTS & FATALITIES.

DARGAVILLE, Monday. A young man, named Keith A. Mitchell (27), employed at Hie New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Company’s local branch, was out fishing with two companions, Messrs Fred Grey and Edward Mellor, near Maule’s Gorge, en the West Coast yesterday, when Mr Mitchell, who could not swim, got into one of the many lagoons which abound on this part of the beach. Mr Grey lied a fishing line around himself and made an attempt at rescue, but was unsuccessful. The body has not yet been recovered. PALMERSTON N., Monday.

A severe motor collision, which fortunately, was not attended with any grave personal injury, occurred in Featherstonc St. on Sunday. One of the two cars concerned, a six cylinder machine, was being driven by Mr W. S. Fox, or Palmerston North, toward Terrace End. The other, a light five-seater car, was proceeding in the opposile direction and ihe vehicles met head-on. The driver, Mr NY. Skipworth had his car badly lacerated and was taken to hospital, where the insertion of several stitches was found necessary. No one else received other than minor injur--1 ’ MARTON, Monday.

\ new motor-car, which was proceeding from Wanganui to Fcilding, skidded on loose metal when four miles beyond Bulls on the BulisTurakina Road and afterwards shot off the roadway and capsized. The vehicle burst into flames and was totally destroyed. The occupants, Messrs Giegg "(driver), Haywood, Nancarrow and T- Blenncrhasscll, all of Wanganui, had difficulty in extricating themselves from the burning car and had a miraculous escape. lIAWERA, Tuesday.

Daniel Nolan, a guard employed on the Public Works’ Opunake-Tc Roti line, while in charge of shunting operations at Mat&pu, was crushed between two buffers, and suffered severe injuries to his right thigh. He was removed to the Haw-ora Hospital, and operated on, but died of shock. Deceased was aged 4$ and was married, with three children, residing at Stratford.
