NO FRUIT FLY.

ENTOMOLOGISTS SATISFIED. THE ARGENTINE EMBARGO. (Times Correspondent.) WELLINGTON, Saturday. Two Argentine entomologists have been spending some time in New Zealand examining the orchards in several districts in order to satisfy themselves as to whether the country is or is not free from a particularly dreaded pcsl, liic fruit 11 y. Owing lo a suspicion that the fly was among New Zealand’s fauna, Argentina lias since April last year exercised a quarantine against apples and related fruit imported from New Zealand. It is gratifying to the oicliardists of the Dominion that this independent tribunal, which cannot be suspected of bias in favour of New Zealand, has now reported very definitely Hint the pest does not exist, here. The visitors were unable to find a trace of it, and moreover, arc satisfied that it is not to ho feared, because the natural conditions do not favour ils existence, if the latter conclusion is sound, the fruit-fly belongs lo a father small class of creatures for which the happy climaic of New Zealand is unfavourable. The experts, in a report to the Consul-General for the Argentine, communicated by him to the Government to-day, announce their intention of recommending their government immediately to remove the embargo. In the course of their report they pay high compliment to the Government officials with whom they came into contact and much gratitude for the facilities which were afforded to them in the course of their* investigation.
