TOWN PLANNING.
ELIMINATION OF SLUMB. A BILL TO BE DRAFTED. (Times Correspondent.) WELLINGTON, Saturday. The elimination of slum areas and the Introduction of a proper system of town planning for application to the Dominion as a whole, are among the matters which tlie Prime Minister is anxious to bring about at the earliest opportunity. The abolition of slums, an a matter of fact, was a part of his policy at the last election. Mr. R. B. Hammond of Auckland, who was the winner of tlie Hutt Valley Town planning settlement scheme, lias been deputed by the Government to prepare a town planning bill, which, when drafted, wilt be submitted to the consideration of the committee which was formed last year to further the matter Of town planning. Later it will be brought before Cabinet for approval. It will be submitted to Parliament in the course of the coming session, Mr. Coates boins determined to expedite tlie question. Its main purpose will be to codify and put into legislative shape the desires of those who have been urging a broad Town Planning Act.
