. RAILWAY GANGER KILLED. , "'(By Telegraph—Press Association.) STRATFORD, Saturday. Some' time last railway ganger, John O'Callaghan, was killed at a crossing between .Stratford and Midhirsl. The body was found this morning in a pool of blood alongside the line. The deceased was apparently riding on a jigger, and was struck by the north-bound mail train, which was running late. Heavy rain was falling,— The-dFiv<H>--k-new nothing of the accident. O'Callaghan was a widower, and has brothers in Southland. A son waS last heard, of at Riyerton. , . "*'4i" •£ : A JOCKEY KILLED. " An. elderly:.woman, Elsie Lp Roy, of Hemuera, "was seriously injured through being struck by a taxi-cab while "stepping off the footpath. She received a fracture of the left leg, and n fracture of the jaw, together with scalp wounds. A seaman, Mr Sam 'Wallace, aged 30, was knocked down in Customs Street. He was found lo be suffering from concussion. In a motor accident, Mr Jack McMullen, single, aged 38, received head injuries, which arc not believed; to be serious. :■ • DANNFA'IRKE, Saturday. ' Percy Allen Howe, aged one year arid eight months, died last evening .from scalds through a kettle of boiling water having been accidentally emptied over him as"the mother, was removing the vessel from the stove. DUNEDIN, Monday. .Tolin Griffin Clerk, aged li, was drowned on Saturday in a dam behind the Kailangala mine. A companion'procured assistance when (he lad got into difficulties. The body was soon recovered, but resuscitation .efforts were unavailing. r.imiSTCHURGH, aSiurday. Jessie Wilson, a single, woman, aged about 2'i years, nod her death last evening under-unusual circumstances. She was visiting a rrieiKl, Ernes! Archer, a married man, at his workshop, when she suddenly became ill. Archer administered restoratives, but she died.
