AUGER BEETLE IN VICTORIA. INTRODUCED FROM AMERICA. Miniii'f! Press 'vssoclatlonl (Received March do, 12.15 p.m.) MELBOURNE, March 15. A species of borer new to Australia was discovered in packing cases in which machinery comes from America. The Government Entomologist identified live, insects and grubs as the "auger" beetle, which is very destructive to forest, fruit and other trees.
