CHARLADY WINS THE CUP

PAF.ROA. Saturday. For the first day's meins oC Hie Ohinemuri Jockey Club, which opened here 10-day, the allenrlanre was large. Ih" special trains from Auckland and Franklon firing well patronised, while Thames, Waihl, and the immediately surrounding districts contributed their duota to a further liberal extent. This is the jubilee meeting of the club, and when the results of the operations .to-day and on Wednesday are assessed, everything points to a highly successful fixture being recorded. The club has made many improvements to its course and appointments during the past and present, season, and in this important respect horses and the public are well catered for. The fields engaged 10-day were of good size and class, and some interesting racing was witnessed, which was a tribute to the work of the handir.appcr, Mr \V. P. Russell. Mr C. fi'Connor is fulfilling the important dutv of starter at. the meeting, and the judge is Mr E. V. Sutherland. The president (Mr A. McGuire) and the ofTficJals associated with him in the many departments associated with the control of the gathering are deserving of tribute for their eCTorls, while Mr H. Poland, the secretary, has the many affairs in this important department in smooth running order. The weather is fine, and the track is in good order. Tinokaha was left some distance at the start, Infante going out from Ilokioi, Archibald, and King Amans. Nama fell at the first fence, anrl Infante at the second. Tinokaha had hit the front as the field approached the hurdle in the straight, but came down at litis obstacle. Gold Rep had charge past Ihe stand from King Amans, Arsenc Lupin, Ilokioi, Bourn ,-md Archibald. At the back the order was King Amans, Gold Rep, Ilokioi. Arsenc Lupin, and Bourn, with Archibald racing well to the rear. Three fences from home Bourn had run up behind Ilokioi, and this pair led into Ihe home sir,light, well clear of Arsenc Lupin, Gold Rep, Archibald and King Amans. Ilokioi made a faulty jump at Ihe last fence, and Bourn beat him home by JJ lengths. Arsenc Lupin was two lengths away third, with the fast-finishing Archibald in fourth place. Westslip was chopped hack at the start, Berinthia going out to make the pace from To Kawana. Kingstleld and T!n(Tics. Berinthia was the pilot across (ho top from Bnffles, Bobbin, Kingsfietd. Harvest Day and Lucy Glitters. Berinthia came around the home turn with a handy lead from Dobbin, Ruffles. Kingsfleld and Harvest Day. Jn the run to the judge Berinthia had no trouble to hold her own and to win by 1} lengths from Ruffles, who was a head in front of Kingsfleld. Oliinernuri, Tinopono, Miss Vera, and Curraghmnrr. Charlady was still howling along freely in front crossing (he top. and she led around the turn and into Ihe straight from Muscari. Miss Vera, Uralla. Transformer, Seat and Tinopono. In Ihe run home Charlady held cm in good style to beat Muscari by a neck, with the fast-fin-ishing Scai, half a lenglli away in third place.
